Question

Can the program (visitor id) run on Citrix, Terminal Services or other thin-client?

Answer

visitor id is a Windows application and therefore can run on Windows Terminal Services, Citrix, or other thin-client, although is not recomended. There are issues related to periheral hardware support and the messaging features of visitor id.

Consideration should be made for:

  • The DYMO LabelWriter Printer may be shared on the network and therefore visible to the program for printing.
  • A Webcam or other video source will not be accessible to applications running through the Windows Terminal Services thin-client, as Windows does not make these resources available. Citrix apparently does support webcam and live video sources, but this is not confirmed.
  • Messaging - visitor id messenger and kiosk / reception messaging will need to be be disabled (via Options) in a thin-client environment, because this feature uses IP addressing to communicate between applications, which will cause conflicts in a Terminal Server Environment.
