Completely Removing SQL Server

  1. Go to 'Add/Remove Programs' in Windows Control Panel.
  2. Find 'Microsoft SQL Server (version) (instance)' and remove.
  3. Find 'Microsoft SQL Server Native Client' and remove.
  4. Find 'MSXML 4.0' and remove.

If SQL Server version is higher than 2000 you will also need to remove the following programs:

  1. Find 'Microsoft SQL Server (version) Browser' and remove.
  2. Find 'Microsoft SQL Server (version) Backward Compatibility' and remove.
  3. Find 'Microsoft SQL Server (version) Policies' and remove.
  4. Find 'Microsoft SQL Server (version) Setup Support Files' and remove.
  5. Find 'Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer' and remove.
  6. Find 'MSXML 6.0 Parser' and remove.

Once you have removed all of the above programs, delete the Microsoft SQL Server folder which is located by default at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server.
