Overview

In some instances (as advised by FutureIT) it is not appropriate to use kwiklook Backup to establish a backup of your kwiklook Installation. In this event kwiklook may be backed-up manually by your System Administrator.

Applies to:

All kwiklook versions

Procedure

Step A. Shutdown Sessions & Services

  1. Terminate Client Sessions - all kwiklook sessions must be terminated and users locked out during the backup procedure. Users must logoff and shutdown kwiklook. The system Adminstrator can manage this by viewing active Workstation Client sessions running via the 'File | Network' window, Sessions tab. Sessions can be terminated from there and locked out using the 'Deny Login' option. On Terminal Server installations, kwiklook sessions can be viewed and logged off via the 'Security | Users' on the menu bar, in the 'Users' window. The 'Terminate' button will register the User Session as closed but the 'kwiklook.exe' runtime will remain and must then be terminated via Terminal Services Manager.
  2. Stopping kwiklook DataServer (klds.exe) Windows Service - The kwiklook DataServer must be stopped. This is done via Windows Services Manager, or in Windows Task Manager.
  3. Stopping kwiklook WebServer (klws.exe) Windows Service - The kwiklook WebServer must be stopped. This is done via Windows Services Manager, or in Windows Task Manager.
  4. Stopping kwiklook KioskServer (klks.exe) Windows Service - The kwiklook KioskServer must be stopped. This is done via Windows Services Manager, or in Windows Task Manager.

Step B. Backup SQL Server Database

  1. Perform a full backup of the kwiklook SQL database using SQL Server Management Studio. This would normally create a SQL backup file titled kwiklook.bak within SQL Server directories, or your selected destination directory.
  2. Copy kwiklook.bak to the 'kwiklook\Database\Backup' directory. The Backup directory is located the Master FutureIT\kwiklook\Database directory. This is usually on a Server or dedicated machine. The Master FutureIT\kwiklook Directory contains the 'DataServer', 'WebServer', 'KioskServer' and 'Database' Directories. The Master Directory can be located on the network via the 'NetPath=' parameter in the 'KLNET.INI' file stored in the 'FutureIT\kwiklook' directory on any kwiklook Client Workstation. Alternatively, the 'Database=' path in the 'kwiklook.ini' file will also identify the location of the Master Installation.

Step C. Copy Database Directory to Backup Destination

  1. Once the SQL Server Database backup file has been copied or moved to the kwiklook Database directory, all files required to restore kwiklook exist within the kwiklook Directory.
  2. Copy, or compress (*zip) the entire kwiklook directory to your desired backup location.
