MS Licensing Error Message - Remote Desktop Connections

Error Message

"The remote session was disconnected because the local computer’s client access license could not be upgraded or renewed. Please conact the server administrator."

Symptoms

When attempting to start a RDC the error message appears and the session cannot be established.

Applies to

Windows 2000, XP, Vista Remote Desktop Connections to Windows Terminal Server.

Cause

Unknown!

Remedy

1. Click 'Start' menu, open the 'Run' command line.
2. Type in 'regedit' and press 'Enter' - the Windows Registry window opens.
3. Navigate to this folder in the registry editor: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSLicensing
4. Delete the folder titled 'MSLicensing'.
5. Save the registry and close.
6. Run the remote desktop connection again.
